Letter From Home

Tuesday afternoon, Miho returns from the post office with a letter. The return address is partly obscured by a reddish-brown stain it's not best to question too closely, along with one corner of the letter.

Dear Miho,

Your last postcard was a little difficult to read, with all the crossouts.
English alphabet still giving you problems?
Ignore her. Gail says--I can't repeat what Gail said, but she's not at all happy with the staff at that place she sent you and Becky to. I'm glad you found employment, but really Miho, the mob?

Speaking of, would you please come home for a few days? The club can probably spare you, and you haven't got classes yet, and I don't know what exactly Gail wants me to do but I know I don't want to die.

Don't you dare get fat. What the hell use would you be then?

Ignore her. I must have misread the bit about the boy at the school being blue?

PS Don't get fat.

Miho sighs and heads back to the Bada Bing to show Becky and pack her gear. And plot Gail's death.

Becky looks up as Miho enters the B2.

"There you are. Where were you?"

In answer, Miho hands Becky the letter, then steps past her on her way upstairs.

Becky reads the letter and snickers at Gail's comments about Miho's weight.

"So you're going, then?" she calls up to Miho.

Miho leans out of her doorway and nods, then goes back to packing sharp objects. And her roller skates.

"And they don't want me to come?" Becky asks, hurt.

Miho recognizes the tone in Becky's voice, but Becky knows that she and Dwight go and kill people together. It's like their thing.

Becky hops up on the bar and perches there. "Ah, well, you'd have more fun, anyway. I'd rather stay here," she adds, smiling.

Miho comes downstairs carrying a suitcase, and when she hears that gives a wordless glare to the seat Geoff had taken the night before.

Becky continues to smile. "Have a nice trip," she says in a slightly singsong voice.

Miho nods at Becky, then heads out the door and toward the bus station.

Little does Becky know Miho has the rest of the baklava in her suitcase.
